"The City of Toronto has harmonized its 43 zoning bylaws into one draft zoning bylaw. Bylaws regulate the use, size, height, density, and location of buildings on properties and affect every property in the City. Harmonizing the previous bylaws into one bylaw empowers citizens to find zoning information on their properties and make it quicker for staff to respond to inquiries. The draft zoning bylaw was released in May 2009. The draft bylaw (http://www.toronto.ca/zoning/index.htm) can be accessed through an interactive map so you can see how the proposed zoning will apply to your property, neighbourhood and city. You can comment on each paragraph of the bylaw. Two of the eight Open House were held in the Scarborough Civic Centre. The joint Open House and special meeting of the Planning and Growth Management committee was held on June 16 and was attended by 20 people. The Open House meeting on September 16, 2009 was attended by 36 people. City planning staff presented the highlights of the draft bylaw and offered help to find the proposed zoning for their property. The presentation will be posted on the zoning bylaw website (www.toronto.ca/zoning ) before the end of this week. Several display boards and large scale zoning maps were displayed at the Open Houses which helped to explain the many facets of the draft zoning bylaw. Staff will be reporting on the public consultation to the November 4, 2009 Planning and Growth Management Committee meeting. The City plans to introduce this new zoning bylaw in early 2010."
